Worms eating hyacinth bean seeds

I planted these in two places and they took off in one site and did nothing in the other. When I dug up the seeds, there were little white worms crawling through them apparently devouring them.

Does this happen often? Are the ones that sprouted at risk for any problems? Was the soil too wet? Was it just bad luck? Should you start these inside?

Anyway, I'm very excited about the ones that are taking off.

Any help is greatly appreciated :-)
