Growing a climber on a downspout?

I'd like to try growing an annual climber of some sort up a downspout on the front of my house. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Would it be safe for the drainage system? Would it be a pain to keep it from growing into the gutters and onto the roof? I'd like to try eith glory vine Tresco Mix or morning glory (Sunrise Serenade variety from SSE).

RE: Growing a climber on a downspout?

We had a downspout left on the back of our house after the gutters were removed. Planted Akebia Quinata vine in that area, and one vine grew inside the downspout, all the way up & came out the top. It's quite a conversation piece!
It drapes down from the top and looks pretty unusual. It's in bloom now so looks beautiful!

I know I didn't answer your question, but thought you'd find this interesting!
