Honeysuckle; lots growth at top but little growth bottom

I have 3 honeysuckles planted on 3 trellises around my A/C to disguise it. Have been there for a couple of years. What I'm noticing happen this spring is at the tallest (end) part of the vines it is leafing out thick but lower part of vines has very, very little growth.

So if you look at it you can see right through the trellis to the A/C but above the A/C there is nice thick foliage about 8" at the top of the trellis. Not disguising the A/C very well, perhaps highlighting it LOL.

Do I need to cut the vines way back to encourage more foliage lower on the vines (closer to ground)?
