| I see lots of SP vine growing in containers in magazine and book photos. Is this actual sweet potato plant, which will have tubers, or is it a specially named fruitless vine?

| There are many different types of Ipomoea batatas as entered in the PlantFiles... The types most commonly referred to as the Ornamental Types originated in the Philippines... The different types of Ipomoea batatas all produce edible tubers and edible leaves...sometimes the ornamental types will flower... Hope that helps... Ron |

| Both a yellowy green sweet potato vine and a dark, purple leaved one are frequently sold in this area as (annual) ornamentals. I like to plant both in my bulb garden for color along the ground. The vine grows and spreads out very nicely- no special care needed. I have also combined them in container plantings, that is also very nice. Brandy |
