Yes, you can do that but you'll need big containers or you'll have to water them every day once they're mature. Still going to be lots of water. Depending on your part of NC, you'll also have to content with winter issues. That's another reason to use a really big container; to insulate the roots.

Yes, I have a small carolina jasmine in Indiana and I just move it outdoors every spring. I keep it trimmed into a "standard" shape with a few trunks and lots of foliage. It blooms like crazy the minute I bring it into the house in October, all the way thru the winter. I have an arabia jasmine as well and it behaves similarly. It has one trunk and looks like a small tree, very nice and VERY fragrant.
