Can't help you w/ that, Kat, but there seem to be a lot of questions being asked on this forum and few replies at the moment (everyone being busy planting, I guess), so I suggest you might want to post your question on one of the rose forums. Also, I think a trellis that would support a vine might not support a rose or vice versa. I don't know about your climate, but I would say you need to decide if you want a plant that will be green in the winter or go dormant. Here, clematis are great vines that die completely back in the winter (so not likely to be invasive), and have gorgeous blooms in the spring, summer and fall (depending on the variety). Honeysuckle is very vigorous, and some stay green while others lose their leaves in winter- also can be invasive. If you go w/ a rose, I would suggest you do some research and get one that will not need to be sprayed a lot, such as some of the Old Garden Roses (OGR's). I use small C hooks (screws) and nylon fishing line to make something that my vines can climb but can't be seen. I screw the hooks into a wood fence. Not sure what you would use for brick? You can get really strong nylon fishing line. Eventually it will probably degrade but I've used the same nylon line for the past 3 years and am in zone 7a so it goes thru multiple freezes and thaws.
