I have a 4 or 5 year old Hardy Kiwi growing on an 8ft trellace. It's so tall and woody that all of the leaves are at the top 2 feet... leaving the mid part of the trellace without any leaves... and therefore no screening from my neighbor's house... which was the original goal.

My question.... can I cut this back at this time of the year(April 13th) and have this produce new vines and leaves? I'm afraid if I prune now, I'll be stuck with a bunch of woody vines and no leaves all Summer.
