I can't believe it! I have never been to the vine forum but the day I decide to ask someone here how to get rid of my trumpet vine is the day when there is a post about it! Our house is close to 100 years old and I wouldn't doubt that the trumpet vine is close to that age! It comes up everywhere. Our front yard is very hard to plant and keep looking nice because of this vine. I just found a piece of it on the other side of the house on the OTHER side of our cement driveway. Unless you have a place that you have no desire to keep weeded and plant no other plants with, I would stay away from trumpet vine.

I've actually ordered 2. Once I have decided where their homes will be, they will be planted in some large buckets to limit the spreading. I'm also not afraid to prune. :)

I've got honeysuckle, clematis and the trumpet vines. I'm hoping that one day they will all grow across the top of a 4 foot wooden fence that is 80 feet long along the driveway.

Daylilyluver: I have two honeysuckle plants and I am really having to watch them now that I've had them several years-they are putting up lots of babies. I have heard and read repeatedly not to plant trumpet vine here (it is a lot warmer here in zone 8). I have several clematis- good plants not invasive, but no greenery in the winter (unlike one of my honeysuckle- it stays green all winter). I would think the honeysuckle would strangle the clematis...I have my clematis planted w/ roses. Just a thought. I am sure there are a lot of gardeners w/ more experience than mine on the clematis forum. Brandyray
