Noninvasive vine for northern wall

Hi there! I've got an ugly north-facing garage wall I'd love to cover with a climber of some sort (see link for photo). It gets almost no sun, and the ground beneath it is often a bit boggy. I'm planning to cover the wall with lattice panels to help whatever I grow climb up it. I am located in Chicago, which is zone 5.

I would love to do a climbing hydrangea, but I hear they take ages to establish. Also, I'm a bit concerned it would outgrow the space quickly.

I really need a noninvasive vine, as I have lots of problematic weeds (i.e., bindweed) already keeping me quite busy). Also, I have a small child, so I would prefer something that is not known to be toxic and without thorns.

One possibility is a climbing hydrangea coupled with annual vines of some sort until it gets established.

I would greatly appreciate your opinions and ideas. Thanks!
