 o
Containing English Ivy in Planters to Grow up Wall?

I have a trellis (12'W x 9'H) that I just put in to screen my living room window from my neighbor's driveway. Since it is for privacy and I would like something evergreen, I was thinking about English Ivy although I don't want it spreading all over the bed. I was wondering if I plant the ivy in two planters at the base of the trellis if it would make it more manageable?

Also, thoughts on 'Thorndale' or is there a better variety that someone would recommend for zone 5, north facing, part sun? I don't necessarily want a solid wall of foliage, I just need more privacy than the little I have. Thanks!
