I have a sister who lives south of San Fran on the peninsula (sp?). She grows sweet peas every year with great success. I can't give you any answers about the non-scented ones since hers have a wonderful fragrance each year. I can tell you however, that each year when the vine dries out--and not before--she gathers her kids and they all pluck the pods and place them into a paper bag. Paper bag is very important since it allows air to flow through. She places the bag in a cabinet in her garage for the hot summer months. The following fall she shakes the bag vigorously and all the dried out pods realease their seeds. She soaks them in water overnight and then re-plants them at the base of her fence with no regard to spacing, rotating crops or watering directions and she has a wonderful crop each spring. Go figure. Good Luck!

Could it be a perennial sweet pea? The perennial type don't have a scent. I have a pretty white one.

Many modern sweet peas have no scent. Find a nursery that carries Renee's Seeds and plant some heirloom varieties in the fall. They'll reseed. Painted Ladies is beautiful and Cupani is very hardy; should work in your area. Cupani practically takes over my yard every spring.

I heard that most of the perennial sweet peas don't have a scent either.

I have 2 different perennial sweet peas and don't believe that either is scented.

How big is it now? If you think it's a perennial sweet pea, I'm looking to plant some as I hear they are a pretty vine, but the flowers are unscented.

There are many types of peas. If you want to grow the true scented 'sweet' pea, look for the latin name lathyrus odoratus. gardyloo is right; heirloom varieties tend to have much more fragrance.
