dutchmans pipe vine advice

started 2 dp vines last year from seeds. both vines were growing before winter. i keep well watered and warm all winter. this spring i planted one vine in a sunny spot and one in a sheltered spot. both in good compost inriched soil. both vines have not grown at all. will some of you dpv growers please give me some good advice. i have wanted to try this plant for several years and now this. HELP..HELP.. HELP

Hi Kathy,
I've not grown Dutchman's Pipe, but most all the vines I have grown just sit for awhile after planting. I think they are making the roots so they can climb. If they look healthy that is probably what is happening, and all of the sudden they will go crazy with growth.

Be patient. I have two DP vines that are absolutely gorgeous, but they have been in the ground for 6 years. The first 2 they just sat and now it's like Jack and the Beanstalk. They are huge and people stop on the street to look and ask about them.

Another vote for "they are just getting established." I have grown Aristolochia durior/macrophylla and A. tomentosa. Both just did nothing for the first year. If they do nothing next year, you can consider moving them. But don't be too doting and overwater or fertilize while you are waiting.
