I don't even bother putting Bougies in pots since they only last a season before having to repot, they're such fast growers. I'm in FL, so it may not be exactly the same, but mine are in the sandy soil in the blazing sun and they love it. It did take them a little while to get started once in the ground. If it doesn't rain they get heavy watered once a week. They do die back in heavy cold but come back easily. I use that as an opportunity to trim back unwanted legginess.

We have ours in hanging baskets in the sun and water them at least once or twice a week since we haven't had any rain, I live in Victoria, Tx. We used potting soil for repotting plants which you can get at any garden center. They are fast growers and might have to repot them to a bigger container...gunca
