Easily controlled vine to cover wooden fence

Hey everybody,

My grandparents have a wooden fence in the backyard that provides little privacy due to its lattice design:

I was hoping to cover this fence with some sort of vine. The thing is that although I want a semi-fast growing vine to quickly cover the fence, I also want one that isn't too aggressive and wont take over the yard or eat away at the fence.

I was thinking of just keeping it in a large pot next to the fence so that its growth will be controlled, but I'm afraid that this may add too much stress on the fence since the vine won't be rooted.

Sorry, I don't know anything about gardening.

They live in a hilly area in a zone 10 where the dirt is kind of dry/rocky.

Any ideas?

Thanks!
