Wall anchor for Virginia creeper

We have a block retaining wall and want to insert anchors into the crevices between the blocks so that we can anchor our VC and get it off the ground. We tried wire loops but eventually the VC got too heavy and pulled the wire out. Any ideas for anchors that can go into those crevices - maybe expand after they are tapped in - so that we can make a wire trellis?

I have looked at the kind where you glue the anchor onto the wall with silicone and string wire but I think our blocks are too rough for the silicone and anchor to stick.

I don't have Virginia Creeper, but I do have Parthenocissus henryana, a close relative. It is 35 feet up the back of my house and it sticks to the wall by itself. Virginia Creeper (P quinquefolia) has the same holdfasts as P henryana, so should stick without help. Maybe all you need is a temporary trellis of some sort to encourage it in the right direction.

You can hot glue it in a few places to get it started.
