Black eye susan / Thunbergia vines

I have two black eyed susan vines planted. Each has sent out two six-feet vines, but they are skinny. I would like to keep them to 6 or 8 feet height. If I nip the tips, will they then thicken near the base and be fuller? I wonder about doing this with morning glory vines as well?

They will branch where you cut the ends off.
