Campsis (trumpet vine) advice needed

northernlight

Hello Forum,

I just took a cutting from a trumpet vine for rooting. It comes from a very established vine in my city that flowered beautifully for years and was hacked down last fall by a new building owner who presumably thought it was a weed. It sprouted up from the ground this spring like a weed, but with no blooms unfortunately :(

When the cutting roots later this month, should I plant it directly outside and let it go dormant naturally? Cold weather comes quickly in my USDA zone 4 climate, so I am a bit reticent. Or should I overwinter it indoors and put it outside next summer and let it overwinter at that time? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Suman
