Transplanting Wisteria

Reese_F

I have two wisterias that are about 10 years old, each are planted in separate 20 gallon terracotta pots. I plan on planting both of them in-ground next to a pergola. Yes, they both flower.

Question: I like the look of twisted stems but since these were planted in separate pots they only have one main stem....not twisted. Can I physically twist these together before planting them next to the pergola?

Main Branch is about 1.5 inches in diameter...I was planning on trimming the tops to make it easier to twist them together.
