Japanese MGs are no different than American MGs in that when they are 'open pollinated' there is always the chance you will get something different, and 9 times out of 10, it is even more awesome than you expected. Even in Commercial Japanese MG Seed Packs.

On the other hand, there are many cultivars that continue to remain 'True' even when grown open pollinated. All of these factors depend on the genes in each MG. I have quite a number of MGs that I have grown open pollinated for years and they always seem to grow back 'True'.
