Does anyone know of a special treatment for seeds from this plant. I have thousands of seeds but not able to germinate them for some reason. They are fresh harvested from this year and I have allowed them to dry on the vine. Could chilling them help? Should the PH be a certain level other than 6.5-7.0? TIA

I've gathered seeds from the spent flowers on my Mexican Flame vine for a number of years and have never had any germinate. I've read that they need light to germinate and should be surface sown after the chance of frost has passed. I'm not sure if the seeds I collect are even viable. The seeds I collect are extremely small and flat. Does it need cross pollination? At least it's easily propagated from cuttings.

Hi karyn. I'm trying to root some cuttings and I'm getting about 50% strike. Are you doing any better? Are you using medium or water? I'm using medium. 2-1-1 sphagnum peat/perlite/vermiculite. I've started throwing the whole seed pods in a pot and have been keeping it moist and in direct sun so that should be enough light. I ordered seeds from ebay in spring and got no germination so she sent me some plants and didn't even ask for shipping charges. Great seller! John

John I get 100% rooting in room temp tap water in a very short time with no problem transitioning to soil. Just take the cuttings and stick them in a glass of water. I've even left cuttings in a jar of water all winter and just stuck the whole mess of tangled roots in a pot the following spring. Let me know if you get any seeds to germinate.

Thanks karyn. I'll take some more cuttings and put them in water. I've got a bunch of sprouts popping up in the pot but I don't know if they are Senecio or weeds yet. I'll let you know via email when I know. John
