Vines for Rock Wall

After searching and reading many posts, I am confused on the best course of actions. I have the following situation:

- a limestone rock wall that one landscaper aptly described as "mangy."

- Next to that rock wall I have 1' - 2' of open space, followed by 4' or 6'6" wide concrete (2 different areas), and then a swimming pool.

- I also have a similar situation in another area with paver stones rather than concrete.

- All are in full sun.

From what I have read, the best vines for climbing the limestone wall are things like ivy and trumpet vines. In all discussions involving those plants, however, there are cautionary statements about aggressiveness. Would the underground runners of ivy or trumpet vines make it to the other side of a 4' or 6' 6" wide patch of concrete?

Thanks,

Chris
