Wisteria looking wistful

I planted three Wisteria Amethyst Falls along my lower porch last autumn. Two are doing well but the middle one has lost most of its lower leaves. They have a southern exposure with days in the 80s and nights in the 60s, plenty of moisture, well-drained clay soil. Any thoughts?

Dig it up and see if its roots are ok - are they white and healthy? Wisteria is a large plant, thus a large mass of roots - do you have them planted too close together? If you do, they are 'fighting' for water and nutrients - put about 6-10 feet between each plant.
