Vine Supports

Hi, I have some dried bamboo poles I plan to use for wild grape supports. I have plans for a "teepee" and my bamboo is fairly thick as far as bamboo goes. Will this be sturdy enough to support some wild grape vines?

For a while, but once they get a couple of years old, no - grapevines get stems as big as one's wrist, and they are very heavy - you'd be better off to make your teepees out of heavy metal poles.

Has anyone ever used chicken wire to put on a fence to support morning glories? I live in Texas and this is an annual and seems like the chicken wire would be easy to remove in the winter months.

Thanks

RE: Vine Supports

Hi Jeri, I'm also in Texas and have used chicken wire for support for annual vines. It works pretty good, but I've found that the 2" openings is a lot better than the wire with 1" openings.
