Questions about Blue Moon Wisteria

Hi everyone,

I would really like to plant a Blue Moon wisteria next year as I heard it doesn't get as vigorous as the Chinese or Japanese varieties. My questions are does it get really thick, heavy vines? Do I have to prune it like the aforementioned wisterias? I was planning on letting it grow on a wooden support (the back steps and railing) or would it get crushed?

The flowers look beautiful and I heard they are wonderfully fragrant!

Hey Brad there was some talk about it on a thread right here at GW...check it out...sounds like it's what you might be looking for.

Here is a link that might be useful: Wisteria Thread

Thanks Ronnie, it helped me a lot! I think I might give it a try if I find it around here.

Brad I have Amethyst Falls which isn't terribly aggressive either. I personally think it's the prettiest wisteria with shorter fuller blooms. It also blooms later in the season then the Oriental varieties. After the initial flush it will continue putting out a few blooms at a time all summer. The one negative I've heard about Amethyst Falls is that it can have an offensive odor but mine never has. Mine has no smell at all. I might be able to find a rooted runner. If I can't find a rooted piece I can take cuttings but have no idea if they can be rooted. The blooms aren't fully open in these pics.
