Identify a pod that grows on a vine

I found these pods in a corn field and wonder if anyone can identify it. If it has a nice flower, I will plant the seeds. The seeds are the size and appearance of a watermelon seed. The pods are the size of a buckeye shell with the spikes.

Any chance for a picture or description of the flower and leaf?

It looks like it could be Echinocystis lobata(wild cucumber.)

Thank you for helping me out. I appreciate the expert identification. I have the seeds and it will be in the garden for exploration next summer.

When you split the pod open, they really do smell just like cucumbers, but they are not edible...extremely bitter. They can be very invasive, but are easily pulled out by the root..i toss mine in a fire so they don't seed anywhere.
Why would you want to keep seeds of this? Donna
