| This is a continuation thread since the previous one got a bit long. We came from here: PART 1 of Winter MG Growing Discussions
Here is a photo of one of my containers; the vine is strain Q1152, a variegated leaf Ipomoea purpurea from Kyushu University.
Here is a close view of the variegated leaves of Q1152:
Arum's JMG she gave me in a trade 5 years ago, named Bold Miss Piggy, made its first true leaf, and I think it is an interesting shaped leaf from the usual form we see in JMGs.
Can't wait to see the flowers!
Joseph

| I took the last photo not using a flash, which changed the photo color to its actual color on the plant. Sorry about the repeat but had to correct it. |

| Joseph, I remember that "Bold Ms Piggy"! So big, so bold so pink. :) Hope it puts out some BIG flowers for you. I planted Emma's Wisteria Tye dye, and it's doing surprisingly well, beings i planted it in a glass. I just sort of absent mindedly poked it in a glass of dirt that had had a marigold in it someone gave me,which had finished blooming. The seed almost jumped out of the ground it seemed. Guess If i do a serious planting , it might be a sign that it will go well. :) Arum |

| Hi Arum, you will love that speckled flower, if that is the one that goes by another name of Fujishibori. I can't wait to see big flowers on Ms. Piggy. The vine is now starting to take off, nice healthy plant. So far the mites have not found it yet. Colin, thanks much! Looking forward to seeing your plants too. May I ask, what USB microscope device were you using to take photos that you posted over on that other web site? I am always trying to educate myself on options for macrophotography. Joseph

| Thanks, Colin. That one seems like it would be good for capturing macros of seeds, for sure. |

| Hi everyone, I wanted to post a photo of the first flower of Kyushu University strain Q1152 of Ipomoea purpurea which flowered yesterday. This strain has leaf variegation gene and in this plant and photo you can see it a little…plant #1 has the extreme leaf variegation (shown in first post of this thread above) and this plant ought to flower next week. The flower of plant # 2 here does not at all resemble that shown in the KU web site: Kyushu University Q1152 reference photo It should be interesting to see how the flowers look in the other 2 plants I have growing for this strain. | Nice one Joseph...when did you start it? Are you feeding them? I'm curious too, to see the flower from #1 |

| I did not write the date I started the seeds. My bad - however, I think it was just last month. I have photographs of cotyledons so I can pinpoint within a few days. I use freeze-dried seaweed as a fertilizer which I got on eBay, reconstituted in water and further diluted at time of use. I used worm castings as a top dressing one time. I think purpureas are r-strategists when it comes to reproduction so they do not need much for fertilizer but do tell me what you all use ok? Joseph |

| Here is the first photo of Kyushu University strain Q1153. It looks like Q1152, maybe more red. It is supposed to have variegated leaves, but if they are so it is very subtle. Joseph

| Thanks, Ronnie! It is a brightly colored flower, indeed. Here is plant # 1 of Q1152 which shows the most leaf variegation of the 3 plants I am growing from the same seed lot. The flower seems a bit larger than the purple-blue form, and if you look closely around the tube you can see a faint lavender zone. Today the flower that opened had a few dark flecks; got a photo of it but have not transferred it from the camera yet.

| This is a photo of a seedling I'm growing under lights right now. It's a Dwarf Morning Glory Picotee. It's 3" tall and has a few buds showing. Don't know the color yet: http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e219/silverchimes64/DwarfmorninggloryPicoteeSeedling.jpg I bought the seeds from Stokes. Here is what they look like in bloom in the catalogue: http://www.stokeseeds.com/cgi-bin/StokesSeeds.storefront |

| Hi Aker, It is a nice healthy looking plant you have there, and what a treat to have all those flower buds on it at such an early stage of growth. Bring on the flowers! Joseph |

| This flower opened up just today on Q1154 Japanese morning glory, Ipomoea purpurea. I like the coloration of the flower very much. It shows variation from the KU web page reference photo in not having any leaf variegation, however, maybe this trait will appear as the plant ages. Joseph
