I have a paper box mounted on a wooden post, about 3.5 feet tall, and I'd like to grow one or more vines on it. However, it's directly underneath a very large, very old maple tree. Can anyone suggest vines that might actually flower under such conditions? Or something with a variegated foliage?

Some may read your post as saying the box itself is paper - I'm sure that's not correct - LOL Honeysuckle will bloom in shade, but draws bees, so not a good idea for this situation. Do a google.com search for vines that grow in shade in your climate zone - there will be tons of suggestions.

LOL! You're right. We have Japanese honeysuckle EVERYWHERE here, but I also have a trumpet honeysuckle I guess I could put there. I don't get the paper, so the bees aren't really an issue.
