Hello - I am new to violets but have had VERY good luck with my first try. Can anyone tell me what this white stuff is growing on my violet? (The second picture) I'm very worried about it.

Cajun, I think that may be mealy bug. Someone on the African violet forum could identify it and tell you how to treat.

They're telling you African violets (Saintpaulia) are not true violets; this forum is for the genus Viola (violets, violas, violettas, pansies).
(And it is mealy bug. Use methylated spirits applied on the end of a cotton-bud - it gets to the bug because it penetrates their protective waxy coating.)

Cajun, I don't really care where you post, if I see it and I can answer a question, I will. :)

But I have only one African violet and it's never had mealy; I didn't want to suggest something that could harm your foliage.

Thanks you for you kind try Morz. The folks over on the African Violet Forum did in fact ID as Mealy Bugs (as well as a few of you guys). Hope you NEVER get them.
