I got a few violets from Canyon Creek for Christmas. I emailed them with questions but never got any response from them. Today I wanted to order a few more, but it seems their website is not up.
I don't know, but it would be a real shame if they have. The only thing you could do is give them a call; their phone number is listed on a few web sites if you Google for it. If you do call, please post if you learn anything! There would be a very paltry selection of violets available in this country without them, and that alone makes me think (wishfully, maybe) that perhaps they haven't entirely given up.
That is indeed a sad end, but at least they aren't entirely out of business. I'm afraid that with the demise of their shipping, the violet will find it harder still to attract and sustain the audience of specialty growers and gardeners that it needs to surge again in popularity (one day, though, it will happen!). Wide distribution and continuing availability are the key to survival of rare cultivars and species, so now there is a niche to be filled. It would be a rare nursery owner who didn't need to worry about paying the bills and feeding a family, though, so the decision is understandable. It's just another sign of the times.
