Please be advised that the current Violet Society Journal, featuring the 7th International Violet Society Meeting, is now on-line.

The meeting was wonderfully planned and carried out by, Le Amis de la Violette, our Violet Friends in Toulouse, France.
I am sure you will enjoy reading the report as in the Winter 2003 Violet Society Journal.

Here is a link that might be useful: Winter 2003 Violet Society Journal

Dear Friends,

The theme for the up-coming Violet Society Journal, Spring 2004, will be 'Favorite Violet Flowers'. The deadline for sending articles to me is May 20th. An article is approximately 250 words with photo(s). Please send articles to me at: Editor@sweetviolets.com

We are looking forward to hearing from many of our violet friends, as you share your 'Favorite Violet Flower' information, to be included in our Spring 2004 Issue.

I was wondering if you could expand a bit on what is meant by "Favorite Violet Flowers". Does this mean a favorite species or cultivar? Or a favorite individual plant with a history? Or is it more or less open to interpretation? I don't know if I would personally be able to write anything, but perhaps if I knew a little better just what the topic is getting at. Thanks for humoring a silly question!

Hello Stefan,

Thank You for your good question. Yes, to use your phrase, the definition is 'open to interpretation'. Perhaps it is the first violet to come into bloom in your area. Perhaps it is the one from your grandmother's yard. Because I also do the culinary page for the Violet Society Journal, I was thinking that mine might be V. hederacea, because it comes into bloom off and on in my greenhouse. There always seem to be some flowers of V. hederacea available for eating!!
