| Hi ! Always a hard thing to identify a violet :-/ Well...according to the photos and the place you live in (New York ?) I would say viola emarginata 'cause it does seem a triangle-leaved violet :-) You can find it page 132 in Viola Brained Baird 's book "Wild Violet Of North America". All the best :-) Thierry. |

| I live in North Carolina (Surprised to see you live in France! Don't think I've ever met anyone from there.) I looked up images of the violet you suggested and it doesn't look the same. Thanks for telling me the name of the book. I'll give it a look-through. |

Nothing surprising living in France: really common, 66 millions do ;oP Well, beware photos on the web many have wrong names, sometimes it's definitively anything :-( Do you know how capsules look like, the color of the seeds (black, brown, yellow ?) ? Do you have a better pic of the bloom so as to see pistil ? Is that violet native ? |

| I don't know anything about the plant. First time I ever saw them, one had appeared in the lawn last year but I didn't think anything of them. This year, in the same spot, there's a couple which surprises me as the lawn is mowed regularly. I can try for a better picture soon. It depends on how well my digital camera is. |

That is a violet. I don't know the proper name but I have them growing on my hillside. I moved a bunch of them on the side of my house where I have my hosta's growing. I absolutely love them. I call them wild violets. I can't wait to see them bloom. Linda from PA |
