Wild violets found in yard

These were in my friends yard...now I have some in my yard.

Are these the wild violets that just pop up everywhere? I'm in E. Texas. Would anyone know the correct name for these?

Hi piksi hk,

If you're still watching this, what you have is probably Viola odorata. Be careful where you have them, they shoot their seeds all over the place, and in a couple years you'll probably have a whole patch of them if you don't pull out the seedlings. They produce seed twice a year. Once after blooming in spring, and again later in the year without blooming. They're great in the right place, but can be a real nuisance in the wrong place!

Here's a link to more information about them.

They're one of the V. riviniana / reichenbachiana / ... group; can't tell for sure from the picture (need to see spur, sepals, etc. better). Definitely not V. sororia nor V. odorata (can tell from the old seed pods, apart from other factors). V. riviniana is most likely; European, but widely grown in N. America.
