Can anybody help? I dug them up from the yard of an abandoned house and potted them up the same day. They're a beautiful pink.

Hi !

It seems to be viola odorata definitively (does it scented ?) but can't say which one, there are so many pink viola odorata at that time. Sounds like a kind of fashion in the states ;-)
I would say the pot is a little bit small for that big viola: you should have used several ones: there's a few place for it to grow :-(

Take care and thx for the pic :-)
Thierry.

It is viola odorata rosea or viola rupestris rosea. Viola odorata obviously would have a marked scent. Is it perennial for you? In your zone I would say one of those two especially the rupestris. Whatever it is it is a lovely little violet! And I love it in that container! :)
This site has a picture although it didn't pick up the pink as well as yours. :)

Here is a link that might be useful: link
