Viola Odorata Coeur d'Alsace (French cultivar)

True color of coeur d'alsace's flowers :-)

Here's a photo of a go between (Cleistogam/chasmogam): if the bloom was bigger I would have thought it was a normal one, but it's not.

It's a pity I can make you share the smell: just imagine :-)
Enjoy :-)

Take care folks
Thierry.

consternation, thierry!

all my references describe coeur d'alsace as a pink violet.
there were lots of pink violets with this name in aust. so it was difficult to learn which, if any, might be true. i have received the same violet under the same name from liz smith in cornwall, clive groves in devon, and from a very knowledgable gardener otto fauser, who bought it here in the 1960's. these all have the 'unusual' shade of pink, as this violet is often reported to have.
please tell some more of the origin of your clone. i'm always ready to have my data base updated!!
amicalement,
rob...

G'day !

The pic is definitively gross, sorry for that: I'm not good at photos :-(
Right now blooms are small (between cleistogam and chosmogam), not easy for pics.
I'll try to make a better one, especially for you, to help you having a better idea of the way mine's color :-)
I bought it in a famous French supermarket of plants sale, the supplier is not mentioned on the label: they were also selling common odorata, white c'zar, parme de Toulouse.
Nathalie saw those violas in that shop and according to her, everything was ok :-) I think she knows the supplier, she told me its name but I can't remember - brainless time ;-)
You're right, Coeur d'Alsace is a kind of "dark pink" :-)

I post another pic tomorrow :-)
Take care.
Thierry.
