Hello !

I need some help ! Please, be nice :-)
I've been proposed a list of viola's seeds but among that small list there are some pansies (let's forget them), some violets and there are 2 unknown names for me: Viola camschatalonum and viola elegantula. Can someone tell me if they are violets or pansies and what they look like ?
Thanks :-)

Take care :-)
Thierry.

PS: For present, a pic of viola diffusa, enjoy :-)

Dear Thierry,
Viola kamtschadalorum W. Becker et Hult. is a species from Kamchatka and Sakhalin (violet type, blue flowers, up to 40 cm, related to V. langsdorfii). Viola elegantula Schott. is a pansy from Western (former) Jugoslavia and Albania with yellow, violet or bicoloured, occasionally pink or white flowers (10 - 20 cm).
Kind regards
Gerd

Hi !

I found a photo of viola Kamschadalorum from a French nursery. I gonna try to get that one. The nursery is not sure at all about the name....
The blooms are really gorgeous :-)))) But not blue...
What do you think ?

All the best.
Thierry.

Here is a link that might be useful: viola kamschadalorum

Dear Thierry,
Found your questionnot before yesterday, sorry. The flowers of "your" V. kamtschadalorum are quite similar to those of my plant. If the plant is large and erect I suspect it will be the real thing. The color may be be a little bit falsified which is not unusual by viola pictures. Also my information "blue" may be somewhat simplified - violet is more correct.
Kind regards
Gerd

Thierry,
V. elegantula is great - very pretty flowers and excellent scent.
And for anyone fancying hybridizing, if you grow V. cornuta as well - they will hybridize :)
Mike
