viola odorata alba: cultivar...

Hello !

Strange story in fact. I bought a viola odorata alba in a French nursery. I have my first bloom and, it's not a true alba. Fortunately or unfortunetely (choose the one you prefer) it looks like a cultivar and according to me, it is.
I guess a jocking bee played with some pollen :-) I suppose now that it had fun it's having a good laughting time ;-)
Just imagine: I'm working hard on trying to make hybrids and believe me, it's hard to sucess, and a little bee made a cultivar !!!!!

Enjoy the pic :-)
Take care :-)
Thierry.

elegant, thierry!
i wonder if this is a sport from odorata? white forms exist in the wild. cornwall, england is known for these. i wonder if your plant may be an intermediate form?

very nice. thank you!

Thanks for your answer Rob :-)

Intermediate form ! I haven't thought about that...why not ?
Does someone have the same ?
Rob: what kind of intermediate forms do you know/exist ?
Several kind of viola have an alba form...maybe it's not an odorata (it smells) but a suavis (loosing mind !)...where/what is the clue ? Is it a viola hirta, collina or dehnhardtii ?

If only viola could speak ;-))

Who knows ???

Take care :-)
Thierry.

it's only my guess, thierry.
i don't know that intermediate or 'partial' colour variants exist, but it's perhaps possible. i think you would notice if your plant were a hybrid with hirta. (i saw many of these in italy)

i wonder if the colour will be stable in the warmer days at the end of your violet season?

That's exactly what I'm waiting for: will the color be stable or not ? Sounds like exciting moments :-) Finaly, hope it is LOL
First, I was so desapointed (I wanted it to be white) and now I feel it not too bad :-)
I'll tell U :-)
