Healthy purple vs. Sickly Blue

I love that Garden Web has a violet Forum!!

Thank You for reading my posting.

I bought two types of violets this spring. I don't know the formal names, One was the traditional deep purple on all petals with a small yellow face, the other was the purple on the top three petals with the lower 2 being all yellow. The latter faded with the heat and sun, and all new flowers have been a pale blue sickly. The all purple variety is flourishing, even in this sun and heat we've had here in MI. (I'ts over 90%!)

My question is ... Is this the result of hybrids? If it is I'll stick with the all purple variety.

The all purple IS NOT the perrenial weed that people can't get rid of,
Thank You again
Heather

Hello !

Beware, the flowers U discribe as violets must be pansies !
Is quite difficult to give a name to a violet sometimes but it's ten times more harder for a pansy: too many of them and most of all, too many hybrids :-/
I guess without a pic no one will be able to answer to U, am I wrong ?

Regards
Thierry.

Yes I suppose that's right, Maybe the tiny flowers of the deep purple "violets" may be a pansy breed.. I see how it is difficult to diferentiate.

Well anyhow.. Those deep purple ones are still thriving! Even through the severe heat! I'll only buy those next year. Sorry I didn't have a tag.
