help! croaking violas

I planted bunches of little violas all over in various beds early this spring. They thrived for a couple of months, but now, all of the bi-colored ones are dying off one by one, from the outside of the clump in. (I don't know what variety they are, but they're white with blue-purple rimmed petals.) thye're just kind of wasting away.
The funny thing is, the ones that are a solid color - either blue, or white, or purple - seem to be doing fine. I'm keeping all watered - in fact, we've been getting tons of rain - and feeding with Miracle Grow's Bloom Booster weekly.
The only thing that I can figure is that I put Farmer MacGregor's snail and slug deterrant down a month ago. But why would it kill only some of the violas?

I have a similar problem...my violas are dying right to left...i don't think it's the weather despite the 90 degree whether here...my yellow violas are still thriving and by all accounts they should be dead by now...the purples ones that I've plant to the right are slowly dying...when should i start seeing new seedlings?
