Found Variegate. Could use an ID. NC.

Hello. I found a wild violet that seeded in my Western North Carolina garden in the mountains.

It is a striking variegate.
It is a larger leaved type with some specimens being 8 inches tall.

Any thoughts on what species it might be here in the mountains? Or what features I might look at to identify it now?

Hope you enjoy.

Hi !

What a gorgeous pretty violet :-) LOVELY !
It's variegated cause of a virus so it won't help to find its name :-/ Blooms are helpful sometimes...
Did you take it ?

Yours sincerely
Thierry :-)

Bonjour, Thierry!

The plant was found today on my property and has been left in place for now. Do they transplant well?

I don't know much about violas, but knowing something of plants in general, I rather think its a chimeral arrangement of differently abled chloroplasts that is responsible here, not a virus. Its not unusual for gardeners to attribute such markings to disease, however.

If anyone else can entertain that idea, I would love to hear what species you believe my plant to be a mutation of. The household consensus seems to be that they must have been blue or white blooming as we would have remembered seeing a patch of yellow violets.
