someone once told me a reason variegation changed with the season is that...

the green parts grow faster than the variegated parts. in the cooler weather, the difference in the rates it not so noticable but, as the entire plant grows faster, the green parts will dominate the variegated parts.

this does seem to apply to certain plants but i'm not sure it's true that all variegated plants behave in this way....

Thierry, your observations seem to be in harmony with those of other plants exhibiting a very diffuse pattern of speckled variegations (rather than large blotches/streaks, or edges/centers of varied color, which tend to be exhibited independent of temperature, etc.). This patterning also seems to be more pronounced in younger foliage and less so as a leaf matures. I am curious to know if anyone has formally classified that type of variegation and studied how it is affected by the plant's environment... more research to do again!
