Hello Tura,

All varieties of the Viola genus are edible. Please see the link below to the Violet Society Website. After you have entered the site, on the first page you will see the Food and Drink category.
When you 'beep up' that page, there is information concerning washing and candying violets. A 'candying kit' is mentioned on that same page. Unfortunately, that candying kit is no longer available.
Good Luck!

Here is a link that might be useful: Violet Society Website

Are Violas also edible? Thanks Tura

violets and violas are the same thing: "violet" is the common name, "viola" is the scientific name. They are all edible.

HI
I am new to this forum. As a former European naturalized to the States and living in Baltimore, I really miss sweet violets. Does anyone know where to obtain seeds or plants locally or via mail order, or better yet, garden exchange etc? thanks

I got some sweet violet plants from Select Seeds this year and am very pleased with them. Just google Select Seeds.

You can make the candied violets by taking the flowers(after you've given them a cold water bath...(gently put them in cold water and then take em right out.) and dipping them in milk and then dipping them in sugar(granulated) and then let them dry by laying them on a piece of waxed paper...

easy as pie...

A good source for scented violets is Flower Scents Gardens. It's mailorder.

I have candied Johnny Jump-ups as described by the previous person. It is super simple, and they are SO pretty. Then I put them on a pink birthday cake, served it at a tea party. Same party, also served cornbread with wild violets in the batter. Such a pretty presentation, and conversation starter.

quirkpod that sounds beautiful!

I just ran out to pick a johnny jump up and try the sugaring method above. I'm just waiting for it to dry now. I have only used egg white in the past to make sugared flowers.

I'll have to try that milk version too. I've always been hesitant to try sugaring before, because of all the raw egg white bad press. I never would have thought of milk.

Hi!

I see on this list..that " all violets " are edible.
I can only get " Labrador Violets " near me.
I just want to make sure..before I eat one..these are okay too? Thanks!
