How well do self-watering violet pots work?

Posted by cups z8 (My Page) on

I've just lost my most beloved raku blue/green small azalea pots that I'd been growing AVs in, so now I'm in the market for new pots. I keep seeing these self-watering AV pots & am wondering how well they work or any problems with them. For instance, I have hard water out of the tap, would I need to use Reverse Osmosis drinking water to water the plants?

Any info would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks!

Sorry but I don't see the use of self-watering pots.
I water my plants by my own, it's part of my pleasure to take care of my violas :-)

I grow both 'crepuscule' and ' San Remo' in a self-watering pot. They looks healthy ...
But AV ???? ... Doesn't it mean African Violet or Saint Paulias ? I think "Cups" will have specific answers on the forum covering African violets.
