Weeds and Roses

I have about 65 rose bushes in rows and keep trying to get rid of the weeds. Is it safe to use something that will keep the weeds from sprouting? I have tried to mulch deeply but they still find a way to come up. I am learning to just mow between the rows, but would like to do anything but use roundup for fear that the spray will drift onto a nearby bush. Now I only mulch around the bottom of the bush. Any suggestions?

"Weeds and Roses", a new rock band? :D

I would suggest you mulch the heck out of the area around the roses. Mulch deeply with ground bark, peat moss or compost. Other than that, pulling and/or mowing are probably your only options.
