Weeds or Flowers ?

I am posting 2 pictures on a site since I can't upload them. They are just too big and I don't know how to make them smaller. Once on the site the word picture appears on the left and they can be seen by clicking on picture. The first definately flowers, has grown to be 7 feet tall but I am not sure if it is more like a bad weed. I don't remember planting anything that looked like that. The second picture could be a purple fall flower or a bad weed. I hate to think that I am watering a bad weed. I would really like to know the names of these weeds or plants.

First looks like an aster of some type. The second is called Joe Pye Weed it is a definite plus in your garden. It may be called a weed but check your local nursery for a price.

I have to thank you for replying. I really appreciate this since I really felt like digging up these plants. I have no idea where that Joe Pye Weed comes from or how it ended up on my lawn. Everytime I look at it, it appears to have grown. Thanks again!
