PreEmergent on Morning Glories

Help! I went out of town and the Morning Glories took over. I've been fairly diligent about pulling them or using Round Up, but I was gone a week and they've grown like monsters. Worse yet, they've gone to seed. Hundreds and hundreds of them. Has anyone had any luck with preemergents on "flowers"?

I use Preen, after I used it all I went to the nursery and bought treflon, the chemical in Preen and used the Preen dispenser. You save a lot of money by bypassing Preen. It keeps weeds from sprouting, it has save me a lot work.
