1. There is no way on earth to get rid of "weeds".
2. There are some things you can do that will help keep those "weeds" under control and one is to properly mulch which will aid in controlling "weeds", conserving soil moisture, controlling soil temperature, and adding organic matter to the soil.
3. Some "weeds" can help protect your plants from unwanted insects.

It also helps in weed control to find out what kind of weeds they are. Some things will work on one plant but not on another. Mulch will help control but will not kill plants.

When you find out which weeds are the problem post back then perhaps better suggestions could be made.

Newspaper laid down over what are considered "weeds" will deprive them of access to sunlight and since they do not have that sunlight that all plants need to grow those "weeds" will die. The same thing can happen with any other kind of mulch if it is thick enough to block all access to light, but most people do not have that much material.
