Getting rid of weeds in a community garden

The town next to ours has a large community garden and every year my family rents a fairly large plot in order to grow vegetables (eggplant, corn, tomatoes...etc.). Every year we try our best to get rid of as many weeds as we possibly can (by pulling them out a raking them away) and we manage to get pretty much all of them. The problem is that the weeds grow back at such an alarming rate that at some point we just cant keep up. Google does not help as most of the remedies are impractical (as it is a fairly large plot of land) or impossible as we do not live that close (so boiling water is out of the question).

Is there any practical way to get rid of all the weeds early in the season so that they will not come back?
