Help Identifying this weed

Hello, everyone!

We recently took possession of a rental property and have noticed that the following purple weed has started popping up all over the place.

Before spending money on weed killer, I'd like to make sure I know what I'm targeting. Is anyone familiar with this plant & can enlighten me on how to deal with it?

Maybe one of the ajugas? Do any of them have a blue spike flower?

It doesn't look like Ajuga to me. I don't know what it is but if I had to take a stab at it I would go for Asteraceae and something on the lines of a Hieracium or similar. I believe the 'purple' in the OP's text refers to the foliage rather than the flower. The Name That Plant Forum will be able to find an id. And unless there are hundreds of them they could just be dug out. Mowing the lawn will also help keep them under control. The garss looks very long. Whatever you do, though, don't let it flower unless you want even more.

Actually, I think it does have a purple flower

I'll have to wait until it grows of again. thanks for the leads everyone
