I have a big problem with tree seedlings sprouting everywhere.

The trees I have most problems with are: cherry, maple, and elm

Anyone have an effective method for getting rid of these. I try to pull them out when they are small as much as possible, but there are so many, sometimes I miss.

Rather than pulling them out which is very hard since the roots go deep. Could I cut off and put weed killer on the tops? Would that be an effective way to kill them and keep them from resprouting?
