It looks a lot like pokeweed to me but that's a large size plant for this time of year. The pokeweed in my zone 6b yard is only a few inches tall about now.

If it's pokeweed, the stems are hollow and the seedlings have a reddish tint.

Thanks for your help peggy but the leaves on this plant are opposite not alternate (the pic doesn't show that). I have been searching and can't seem to find anything like it except for maybe some kind of false sunflower?? But it doesn't have a hairy stem or leaves. Anyone else know? I am in southeast Michigan.
