 o
What is this purple-blooming weed/wildflower?

This is a volunteer in an overgrown area that is mostly shade, under a large maple tree. The lot was vacant for decades before, so the soil here is typical eastern forest-floor stuff--- rich with years of decomposed leaves.

The leaves of the flower/weed are long and blade-like, something like a tulip. The flower is on a long stem and is bright purple. It's not unattractive, but I'm not sure if I should nurture it or pluck it.

Please ignore the garlic mustard seedlings; we are in the process of dealing with that infestation.

looks like an allium of some kind. Does it smell of onion when you cut the leaf?
